VIÑA DEL MAR, Chile -- Mexico and Bolivia played to a 0-0 draw in the opening 2015 Copa America match for each on Friday night at the Estadio Sausalito.

The draw left the sides in a tie for second place in Group A, one point behind host Chile, which beat Ecuador 2-0 a day earlier.

In an encounter that produced only two shots on target, the Bolivians generated the best chance in the 14th minute.  Ricardo Pedriel latched onto a left-sided cross only to see his effort from seven-yards out crash off the near post.

Second-half substitute Raul Jimenez should have given Mexico the lead in the 67th minute, but – with the goal wide open – he headed Jesus Manuel Corona’s left-sided cross wide of the far post from inside the six-yard box.

The Mexicans return to action on Monday against Chile at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago.

NOTES: 

  • Mexico was a perfect 8-0-0 in its previous eight meetings with Bolivia
  • Mexico has never beaten Bolivia in the Copa America (0W-2D-1L).
