CHILLAN, Chile – Mali (2W-1D-0L, 7 points) scored two goals in the first half en route to a 3-0 win over Honduras (0W-0D-3L, 0 points) in the FIFA U-17 World Cup on Saturday at the Estadio Nelson Oyarzun Arenas.
With the result, the Malians captured the Group D crown, while the CONCACAF runner-up departs Chile without a point.
Amadou Haidara netted the game’s first goal in the seventh minute, eluding a quartet of Honduran defenders on the left to bounce a right-footed effort from 24-yards out beyond right-diving goalkeeper Michael Perello.
Another shot from distance doubled Mali’s advantage in the 34th minute as Abdoul Dante found the lower-right corner from the top of the arc.
Les Aiglonnets closed their goal account 11 minutes into the second half thanks to Aly Malle’s cool left-footed finish from 15-yards out after a left-sided cross was directed into his path.
Honduras’ best chance came in the fourth minute, when Darixon Vuelto’s flick from four yards hit off the right post.
Mali will next face a third-place finisher from Group B, E or F in the Round of 16.
