ESTELI, Nicaragua – Real Esteli announced Wednesday that head coach Otoniel Olivas will leave the club at the end of the 2018 Nicaraguan Clausura.
The 49-year-old was handed the managerial reins in 2002 and captured titles in 21 short tournaments – eight in the Apertura and 13 in the Clausura.
Under Olivas’ leadership, the Tren del Norte posted unbeaten records in 2003 Apertura and 2004 Clausura seasons, doing so again in the 2016 Apertura by scoring a remarkable 51 goals and conceding only six.
He also guided Real Esteli to berths in six editions of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (2008/09, 2011/12, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2016/17) and in one Scotiabank CONCACAF League (2017).
Olivas also was in charge of Nicaragua in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
